The 89 Mesa Wildfire was the first significant blaze of the year. Started accidently by state workers, it quickly spread and threatened dozens of homes near Flagstaff, AZ.

Pinal Sheriff plagiarizes in monthly letters - May 2008
- I caught the elected county sheriff stealing entire articles from writers, speakers and even President Bush and passing them off as his own. Best part, I discovered that he sat on the state police board and permanently denied certification to two cadets for plagiarizing on their applications.

Kindergarten teacher taught for months after sex arrest - February 2008
- Broke story about an educator who was able to stay in the classroom for six months while facing multiple child-sex charges. I uncovered a huge gap in the notification system between police, the courts and education system. This began a series of stories that changed state law three months later. It was also profiled on CNN.

Safety violations found in officer's fatal fall - August 2008
- I spent months fighting for records and reports to show that a veteran police officer was unnecessarily killed during a rappelling exercise because of faulty equipment and no training.

Pinal Sheriff probes officer's smutty e-mails - June 2008
- Busted a lead homicide detective for storing and sending dozens of pornographic pictures and videos with his work computer and e-mail. The Sheriff's Office immediately began an internal investigation. They later found several employees guilty of doing the same.

Hunt Highway crashes double those reported - June 2008
- I analyzed records and crash reports to uncover that a sheriff's office grossly under-reported the number of crashes on a notorious stretch of road. Officials wanted to show that millions of dollars spent on speed cameras were working to reduce crashes. They weren't. 

Cop in racial-profiling case has history of complaints - January 2008
- This story received a lot of focus. It's about one of Arizona's leading DUI cops who stranded a Mexican motorist and his family on the side of the road after impounding their car and confiscating their identification for no reason.
